Nethen Buffer Responder
The Nethen Buffer Responder is a multifunction magical device created by the Nethen tens of thousands of years ago.
The first function of the buffer is to collect incoming Nethen magic from any source and store it until triggered to be released. It is not the same as the Karenthian Batteries, but can store energy discharged from them.
The second function is to release store energy in a target direction. It can be altered to create a cylinder of magic, a cone, or disperse in all directions.
The buffer's behavior is defined by a magical control device which can be programmed to use the energy in any number of ways. The buffer can also be hooked to a conduit, and the magic channeled like a liquid to power whatever the Nethen wanted to power.
On the Porcupine Moon is the largest of the buffers. It is setup to harness incoming magic from the Karenthians Batteries.
After harnessing the energy, it will send the magic back to the plane of Karenth. Due to the damage, wear and tear, and deterioration of much of the old Nethen technology, the buffer rarely has much of a job to do. It only takes incoming magic a few times a century from the last remaining batteries, but also collects energy from the moon itself.
Freedom's Gate is one of the few remaining artifacts still powered by the buffer, but due to much of the gate's conduit leaking, the gate will only stay powered for a limited amount of time when activated. The gates own capacitors still function fully and will normally charge to maxium during each burst of energy from the gate.
