Cassandra
“Barta?” Cassandra sighed.
“Golden Reef System to be correct,” Thane Vault said with a nod.
Cassandra let out another sigh as she looked over the file in the briefing room. “You know how nice it would be to take a contract from someone other than the Bolgars?” she complained.
Thane Vault shrugged. “We take what comes in, and for better or worse, things are rather peaceful out there. If the King of Barta wants to pay the Jom to hunt down some rebels, and train local forces to become the next set of rebels, who are we to deny him?”
“Wasn’t the 113th just in Barta? Edmund asked?
Thane Vault nodded again. “Yeah, but in the Gorbina Sector. They also ran into some minor issues, but their mission was a success. Rebel activity has been cut way down in the sector, but the king is still struggling with them in the Barta Sector.”
“So simple find and whack mission?” Second Companion Walker asked.
Thane Vault shook his head. “No, protection, and training. Golden Reef is an important system for the king, but has suffered several attacks from the rebel forces. We are to protect the system from rebel attack, and help establish local militia to fend off attacks once our contract is up.”
“Fucking drill instructors again,” Cassandra complained.
“That’s right,” Thane Vault said with a tired voice. “You get to go deal with some untrained small-folk, train them to defend themselves, and deal with any likely trained, out matched forces that try to oppose us. All well getting full pay, and the standard completion bonus, not to mention local bonuses. Woe is you,” Jordon shot back at Cassandra.
Cassandra held her hands up. “Okay, Okay, I get it.” She let out a sigh again. “It’s just, for the best fighting force in the galaxy, we seem to have done a hell of alot of not fighting.”
“We’re hired guns, and we go where the money is. Be thankful there isn’t a major war in Furse Space, or Bolgar Space. Enjoy the quiet while it lasts, because it wont last forever.” Thane Vault let out his own sigh. “You all will get your chance to prove yourself more than you have already, but orders are orders. It’s still better than garrison duty.”
“Not to me,” Fourth Companion Towers said.
“Yeah well you have been around the block one or ten times,” Cassandra said to the aged Companion.
“So what do we know about Golden Reef,” Edmund asked, changing the subject.
Thane Vault tabled the table. “Golden Reef, information has been sent to each of your Echo’s, study it. It’s like any shit hole Bolgar world along the Old Ruins, but it’s about to become home for the next several months, so get familiar with it and understand the locals.”
