The years passed, winters, springs, summers and autumns, Chaspar grew up as one of Chards own, trained in the way of both the Leopard and the Jaguar to honor his own ancestry. The people came to love Chaspar, though he may never claim the throne. He does not have the intention to. He is more than happy to let his brother Archet take that! Chaspar was enjoying the freedom of being royalty, yet not the next in line, When the youngest of the three, Castin, was born, the whole Kingdom rejoiced. Having a second heir would ensure the survival of the Royal line. It was a bright summer morning, almost eighteen years after Chaspar was found, and he was acting like a young Cat would, to the dismay of his guardian.
"Chaspar!!!!" Guardian Adra yelled waving his arms, as he ran after Chaspar and his brother Archet as they ran over the lower rooftops of the Palace, it had expanded in recent years, with more sheds and stables, greenhouses, and other stuff that Chaspar found less interesting. Chaspar had recently come of age. Archet, being several years older, was leading his younger brother over the "course". Chaspar stopped, and looked around, the Palace seemed so different from the roof, the huge stone and wood building dominated the landscape of the surrounding city, and the many small wooden huts and homes of their people seemed peaceful. There was a market going in the center. He could smell the good foods from the market, the many flavors of spices the Kaetar had. He could see everything from up here! The City was large, one of the largest in An’Mal, if he believed the stories told by the travelers, salesmen, and nobles that come into the palace. Chaspar was proud of the City, the Kingdom. According to their father, the city of Balagosh had grown in recent years so much that it required a second wall! Which was still being built. Soon this city would rival Knights Hold of Rovaria, and Friars Harbor of Byratal, It was not yet the Size of Byratal the Human's Capital, or OdenGard, the Capital of Rovaria, but it would reach that size one day! Or at least, it is what the royal family boasted.
"Come, brother, Keep up!" Archet yelled with a smile as he jumped to the next roof as if it was nothing. Chaspar, as a Leopard was more agile a jumper than his Jaguar brother, and made the jump easily, even with their Guardian coaxing them to get down.
Out of nowhere, Archet sat down, on the far end of the Palace wall, near the Citadel gate. Chaspar followed suit, they watched their other brother Castin. He was twelve, a decent age and unlike Archet, whose black fur got a deeper black with age, Castin was actually lighter furred, none of the wise Cats, the white tigers, knew how this has happened, that both of Chard’s children were of a different fur than both their parents. But they loved them nonetheless! Castin was sitting in the royal garden with the white Tiger Tash, the WiseCat has been teaching him the basics of magic since he was a young cub. To no effect, if you asked Chaspar.
"He has been ractising for years and yet.." Chaspar whispered.
"nothing yet." Archet chuckled."perhaps he requires some coaxing?"
"Come on Brother!" Chaspar yelled, to get his brother's attention. "Make a shield!"
Chaspar got on the ground from the roof followed by Archet. Chaspar smiled as he started lobbying stones towards his brother, "I have faith in you." he lied.
Castin looked at Tash, then at his brother, as the next stone came his way, he dodged, and stood up. Chaspar grinned as he prepared to pounce on his younger brother, whoms martial skills were still being trained. Chaspar was more than happy to wrestle his younger brother! The strong but confident hand of his older brother landed on his shoulder, forcing him to back down, Archet had the same grin Chaspar had as he threw a rock straight at Castin. Being no fool, Castin managed to dodge the rock thrown by the Crown Prince of Kaetar. All three of them stopped, a few meters in between them, a triangle with both Chaspar and Archet carrying stones and pebbles from the path in the garden, Guardian Adra and WiseCat Tash on the other side and Castin on the point. Castin looked at his scholar whom just raised his shoulders, he would not interfere. Archet and Chaspar took that moment to throw a pebble at him.
"Stop." Castin growled.
"No." Chaspar growled back, Throwing another pebble.
"They will not stop until you defend yourself." Tash remarked. "Make a shield. Show them you have learned."
Castin looked at his master and yelled at him. "I have learned NOTHING in the last four years, all you have done was tell me how to channel my energies, how to "feel" the powers of the schools of magic, And all that has happened is... NOTHING!" Castin started walking back and forth, his tail waving left to right aggressively, yelling at his extremely calm master who got ready to speak.
"You have no faith. You have not mastered how to control your thought."
"My thoughts?" Castin asked.
'Your feel, your Faith" Tash answered.
"I HAVE NO FAITH! I am no Wise! I am a Jaguar! One with more white fur that is all!" Castin yelled and crossed his arms, his tail dropping on the ground. The tiger just stood and did nothing.
Chaspar looked to the ground below his brother, there was only a low wind in the garden, yet, the ground underneath his brother's feet was moving slowly. He was doing something. The aggressive thinking and talking about how he did not believe in what he was doing were somehow enough! He looked at Archet, who nodded, he had seen it too.
"So you have faith in yourself? In who you are, and what you are?" Tash asked.
"YES! I know who I am, I know what I can!" Castin growled, his tail sweeping.
Chaspar grinned as both he and Archet threw a rock at their brother. Castin Looked at them, the winds around his feet grew taller. He growled as he turned their way, the fur on the back of his neck and back stood up, making him look larger, more menacing, he growled and yelled.
"I said stop!"
A mere moment later, Chaspar was lifted off his feet and was thrown a few meters backward into the tree. It took him a few seconds to regain his bearings.
"You did it!" Chaspar laughed, "It was not a shield, but I guess this counts, brother!"
"Incoming!" Archet yelled as he was thrown straight at his brother. Chaspar followed his brother's flight till Archet landed on the branch next to him.
Castin stood in total silence. Calm. Confused but calm.
"I did it…”
“Yes, you did it.” Tash began.
Tash looked pleased as he walked back to the books and chalks. Looking at Castin.
"Back to your studies, youngling. And let's keep pretending you can't do it."
Castin looked to the ground and was mumbling apologies to the Wise, who seemed undeterred by it.
Chaspar could see both relief and a glint of pride in the Wise’s eyes. Archet pushed Chaspar and pointed at the roof with his head. They made their way back to the roof. Archet helped Chaspar back on it, this was reason enough for Guardian Adra to start yelling at them again.
"We have had this song and dance my lords, come here!" The Tiger guardian made a desperate attempt to keep up with the two young princes from ground level.
'Let them go Adra, You can not stop them, they will return when they see fit."
King Chard was standing in the doorway, he had seen the entire thing, from his son learning how to control the flow of Air to his other sons evading capture by an angry Tiger. Chard smiled, he was proud of all three of his sons. He had his arm around the shoulders of his Wife, Queen Amasia, Who seemed both proud and mesmerized by Castin's newfound abilities.
“Did you see that!” She called out maybe a little too loud, the proud mother she was.
“ I did, love. Our son is learning the ways of a path of magic.” Chard answered, he was turning more grey and white with his years, but his eyes, his eyes were fine. They were fixed on Chaspar as he almost tripped off the roof, his heart skipped a beat, only to see him be caught by his brother. Chard chuckled, as long as those two would be together, no threat would be able to take them from this world. He looked back towards Castin, who was now confident in what he could do, for the first time since his training started.
